Biography
CJ Blennerhassett graduated with honours from the McMaster Midwifery Education Program in 2016. She was born in Nova Scotia, Canada and raised in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. As part of her training she completed placements in Toronto, Hamilton, Nova Scotia and Doesburn, Netherlands. Blennerhassett believes that the philosophy of midwifery care strongly supports clients, families, and communities to be actively involved in all aspects of care, and in this way midwives are able to navigate and combat systems of oppression during a time of intense transformation. Blennerhassett is Chair of the Canadian Association of Midwives National Advisory Board on Gender Equity and Diversity, co-founder of a national Queer Caucus of Canadian Midwives, and a member of the Midwifery Advisory Committee at BORN Ontario. In addition to midwifery work she is an editor at Shameless, a feminist magazine for youth, an active member of the Toronto Street Medics Steering Committee, and a solo parent and queer activist.
