Biography

Joanne Jacyk is the Section Manager, Environmental Assessment at the Nuclear Waste Management Organization. She joined the NWMO in 2009 in the role of Senior Environmental Scientist. In her current role, she is leading ground-breaking work using a participatory approach to the design of environmental baseline programs as part of the implementation of Canada’s plan for the long-term management of used nuclear fuel. Previously, Jacyk spent 10 years in engineering consulting, designing, and leading environmental studies, monitoring programs, site investigations, and remediation projects in Canada and internationally. These clients varied across sectors including; mining, oil and gas, infrastructure, waste management, and nuclear. She is dedicated to the advancement of women in STEM programs, is the Engineer-in-Residence at École Élémentaire Charles-Sauriol in Toronto, and a member of the Women in Nuclear organization. Jacyk holds a degree in Biosystems‎ Engineering from the University of Manitoba and a Master of Environmental Science from the University of Toronto.‎ She is a registered Professional Engineer licensed in Ontario, and a Certified Professional Facilitator.
